Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women visits Switzerland

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Switzerland from 7 to 11 February 2022. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Switzerland of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Federal Departments and public bodies: Federal Department of Home Affairs, Federal Department of Justice and Police, State Secretariat for Migration, as well as cantonal different authorities responsible for issues of violence against women, for social and health policies, for migration and asylum issues, for education and law enforcement and judicial authorities. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society working in the area of violence against women.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report during 2022.
