Council of Europe's expert group on violence against women visits Croatia

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Croatia from 17 to 21 October 2022. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Croatia of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Ministries and public bodies, including the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy, Ministry of Justice and Administration, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Science and Education, the Office for Gender Equality, the Office for Human Rights and the Rights of National Minorities and the Gender Equality Commission of the City of Zagreb, among others.

In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society working in the area of violence against women.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report on Croatia during 2023.
