Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women visits San Marino

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to San Marino from 15 to 17 September 2020. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by San Marino of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with the Authority and the Commission for Equal Opportunities, different Governmental entities including the Ministry of Health, the Social Security Institute, the Department for Institutional Affairs and Justice, the State Secretariat for Internal Affairs and the State Secretariat for Instruction, Culture, University, Scientific Research and Youth Policies, as well as representatives of the judiciary and the University of San Marino. The GREVIO delegation will also hold meetings with representatives of national non-governmental organisations and professionals involved in the prevention of violence against women in San Marino.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report during 2021.
