Council of Europe's expert group on violence against women visits North Macedonia

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to North Macedonia from 26 to 30 September 2022. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by North Macedonia of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Ministries and public bodies, including: the Ministry of Social and Labour Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Agency for the Implementation of the Rights of Communities, the Employment Service Agency, the Association of the units of Local Self-Government, the Directorate for the Execution of Sanctions, members of the Judicial Council, Public Prosecutors and the Centre for Social Work, among others.

In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society working in the area of violence against women.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report on North Macedonia during 2023.
