Back Conference "Women's rights at the crossroads" on the improvement of international co-operation to end violence against women

Conference

From domestic violence to rape, to trafficking of migrant girls and female genital mutilation, violence against women takes many forms – and it requires concerted action to stop it.

A Council of Europe conference in Strasbourg on Friday 24 May – open to media, in Room G03 of the AGORA building – brings together high-level participants from across the globe to highlight the work and activities of the “Platform of Violence against Women experts. ” The platform better coordinates worldwide efforts to stop violence against women, which not only violates women’s human rights but also impedes gender equality.

The conference is organised in co-operation with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its causes and consequences and under the auspices of the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers

Led by UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its causes and consequences, Dubravka Šimonović, the platform develops links between the UN and regional independent monitoring mechanisms to ensure that national laws against such violence are adopted and respected in practice.
