Conference “No safe haven” organised under the Irish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

In the context of the Irish Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and in co-operation with the Council of Europe, the Minister for Justice, Ms. Helen McEntee T.D will host a conference of Ministers of Justice on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, in Dublin, from 29-30 September 2022.

The conference will be organised around three sessions, Session I: Changing Social Norms to Tackle Violence against Women; Session II: Changing behaviour of men who have been violent: best practice from European perpetrator programmes and Session III: Training of professionals: working with victims or perpetrators to recognise and respond to violence and make appropriate referrals.

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for Council of Europe member states to collectively address how to prevent and end violence against women. Prevention is one of the four core pillars of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the “Istanbul Convention”). Prevention measures are particularly aimed at a long-term, strategic change in societal attitudes and consequently behaviours to end violence against women in all its forms. GREVIO President Iris Luarasi and two members of GREVIO, Marie-Claude Hofner and Ellen O’Malley Dunlop will be addressing the conference audience.
