Consultation for Patras Integrated Action Plan during the “Migrant’s Day” 2017

Patras Municipal Enterprise for Planning & Development-ADEP SA chose the 18th December, the international Migrant’s Day, for completing the working meetings of Patras Urbact Local Group (ULG).

This falls within the transnational project entitled «ARRIVAL CITIES» funded by the URBACT III programme (2014-2020), under axis 1.1.2 "To improve the design of sustainable urban strategies and action plans in cities".

The Municipality of Amadora (Portugal) coordinates the project and the partnership includes Patras and Thessaloniki from Greece, Riga (Latvia), Roquetas de Mar (Spain), Vantaa (Finland), Messina (Italy), Oldenburg and Dresden (Germany), as well as Val Le Marne (France).

The harmonious integration of immigrants into the societies in which they live and operate is a key objective of the project. The partner cities are invited to respond to a number of interrelated challenges and to conduct an integrated action plan (IAP) for addressing them, so as to act as a tool for developing similar initiatives.

The consultation that took place among the members of Patras ULG during their session has led to significant insights into the content of local IAP, which will be finalised by the end of February 2018. The action plan is expected to be launched in a special awareness event that will promote the project and its results, in March 2018 in Patras.

It is noteworthy that the «ARRIVAL CITIES» project perfectly relates to the involvement of Patras in the "Intercultural Cities-ICC" network set up by the Council of Europe, as well as in the «ALDA: European Association of Local Democracy» of which the city has been an active member for many years now, trying to exploit the diversity advantage and to apply democratic values in practice.

Patras city has benefitted from this networking also to promote the ARRIVAL CITIES project through the ICC and ALDA websites.

Patras intends to continue make use of its own local, regional, national and international links, so to achieve a multiplier effect on the dissemination and exploitation of «ARRIVAL CITIES» results.
