Report published: Seminar “From the Past to the Future: A Living Civic Space for a Living Democracy”

The Conference of INGOs is eager to share with you the report with the recommendations that follow the seminar “From the Past to the Future: A Living Civic Space for a Living Democracy” organised on the occasion of the World NGO Day 2020.

The diverse approaches and forms of activism help civil society to be an active democratic actor. NGOs are becoming more vocal and we see an evolution of the traditional civil society. In this context, our rapporteurs identified the key points, positive and worrying trends, followed by the main questions which still need to be addressed.

The questions are several, but all of them draw our attention to the need to build the bridge of trust between grass root movements, civil movements and NGOs, to the ways in which intergovernmental human rights institutions, independent human rights institutions and NGOs can support citizens, activists and organisations targeted by smear campaigns across Europe and to the role that the civil society sector should play in the future of Europe.

We thank our distinguished guests, excellent speakers and NGOs for their participation and the courage to address many sensitive and relevant issues. We thank all supporters who helped us to make this event a real success!
