The eradication of extreme poverty is a global cause that, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, commits all national and international organisations. As every year on 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the Conference of INGOs is organising a short ceremony on the forecourt of the Council of Europe in memory of the victims of poverty and to recall and promote the Council of Europe's commitment to the fight against poverty, through the implementation of social rights in its member States.
This year's theme is the right to decent housing and a special place will be given to the voice of children. To this end, we are launching a call for contributions from children to let them speak out at this event in the presence of Council of Europe personalities.
If your organisation, through its activities with children would like to contribute, you can invite children:
- to draw what is important for them in their neighbourhood or village (the drawing should be the size of an A4 sheet of paper)
- to write a collective message for the attention of the representatives of the member States. To do this you can make children aware of Article 31 of the CoE Revised European Social Charter “Everyone has the right to housing”, Article 27 of the UN International Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) and Principle 4 of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959)
The children's creations should be sent as soon as possible, and no later than 10 September, to Helene Rozet and Maritchu Rall who are available to give you any additional information you may require.
Our thanks in advance,
Maritchu Rall, Hélène Rozet and Léon Dujardin
