The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, will discuss the “challenges posed to human rights by COVID-19” during a Facebook live

Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović will talk about “challenges posed to human rights by COVID-19” during the last session of the “Human Rights Talks: Equality Matters”. This is a series of online talks run by the Council of Europe Office in Georgia together with the Public Defender’s Office in the framework of the ‘I Choose Equality’ campaign. The moderator of the talks is the Deputy Public Defender, Ekaterine Skhiladze.

The online talks can be followed live on the Facebook page of the Council of Europe office in Georgia  from 4.30 p.m. Tbilisi time on 14 May 2020. Facebook live followers will have the possibility to post their questions and receive answers during the live talks. The online talks will be conducted in English.

The online talks series was initiated together with the Public Defender’s Office following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Georgia and covered a wide range of topics including civil activism, access to education, tackling hate speech and disinformation, the role of media in time of crisis, and discussions with representatives of minority groups.

Background: The Human Rights Talks: Equality Matters is organised in the frame of the I Choose Equality campaign which is implemented as part of the co-operation project “Fight against Discrimination, Hate Crimes and Hate Speech in Georgia”. The project is implemented under the Council of Europe’s Action Plan for Georgia 2016-2019 with the support of the Danish Neighbourhood Programme in Georgia (DANEP).
