The Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović spoke on “challenges posed to human rights by COVID-19” during Human Rights Talks

On 14 May the Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović spoke on “challenges posed to human rights by COVID-19” during the last session of the “Human Rights Talks: Equality Matters” online series held by the Council of Europe Office in Georgia together with the Public Defender’s Office.  

The Commissioner talked about the main challenges raised during the COVID-19 pandemic  underlining the special needs of vulnerable groups.  The Commissioner also focused on  problems related to hate speech, disinformation, and answered questions received from online followers. .

“Human Rights Talks: Equality Matters” online series were held in order to address challenges and risks posed to human rights protection by the corona virus outbreak. The previous online talks covered a wide range of topics including civil activism, access to education, tackling hate speech and disinformation, the role of media in time of crisis and discussions with representatives of minority groups.
