This film was produced by the German organisation WissensWerte. It outlines the various rights which are known collectively as human rights. Human rights are those that apply to every single person, just because they are a human being, regardless of background, race, religion, ethnicity, age, gender, or sexual orientation. The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 declared that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Human rights are part of international law.
Human rights fall into three categories: political and civil liberty rights; economic, social and cultural rights, and finally collective group rights. Human rights are also indivisible and interdependent – they must all be enacted together, and one depends on the other being upheld.
