As part of the European Year of Heritage in 2018 and inspired by the 14 French editions of "Rendez-vous aux Jardins", a joint event took place on 2-3 June 2018 in 16 European countries.

More than 2 700 parks and gardens (of whom over 500 exceptionnally) opened simultaneously their doors throughout this first weekend of June and welcomed more than 2 million visitors throughout Europe in nearly 4000 quality events.

Launched in Paris on 1 June by Françoise Nyssen (French Minister for Culture) and Monika Grutters (German Minister of State, German Federal Government Delegate for Culture and the Media), the theme "Europe of Gardens" and the visual, common to all countries, were a great success and most countries organised educational activities for schoolchildren from Friday 1 June.

On the model of the European Heritage Days, the objective is to secure this event with the countries already participating and to extend these "Rendez-vous in gardens" to other European countries. The theme foreseen for 2019 is "Animals in the garden".

16 countries have participated:

Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.
