Launch of the online HELP course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters in Georgia

On 14 September 2022 the Council of Europe and the European Union launched the online HELP course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters for 25 prosecutors in Georgia.

The updated course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters will be implemented in Georgia and will focus on fundamental principles of international judicial cooperation and a range of legal frameworks and instruments applied for human rights issues. The HELP online course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters explores fundamental principles of international judicial cooperation and a range of legal frameworks and legal instruments for cooperation - applied under a general consideration for human rights issues. It covers extensively both the Council of Europe (CoE) and the European Union (EU) frameworks, along with case-law examples from the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU).

The course gives the possibility to participants to explore materials using different tools such as presentations, interactive screens, knowledge checks and case study. The tutored course will be implemented until the end of December 2022.

Following the completion of the course, the participants are expected to benefit from increased knowledge of standards and practices on Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance, Transfer of Sentenced Persons, International Validity of Criminal Judgments and Supervision of Offenders.

The launch of the HELP course is organised under the CoE/EU joint project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia" which is funded by the European Union within the Partnership for Good Governance II 2019-2022 programme.
