At the initiative of the Italian School of Magistrates (Scuola superiore della magistratura), the Council of Europe HELP online course Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) was launched for more than 250 trainee judges (magistrati ordinari in tirocinio).

Illustrious speakers participated in this seminar with a focus on the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights case law and the role of judges. Trainee judges could benefit from in-depth presentations delivered by Giorgio Lattanzi, President of the School of Magistrates, Marta Cartabia, President of the Constitutional Court, Giovanni Mammone, First President of the Court of Cassation, Raffaele Sabato, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights elected in respect of Italy, Giovanna Ichino, President of Chamber at the Court of Appeal of Milano and Filippo Donati, member of the High Council of the Judiciary.

The HELP Programme and its updated course Introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights were presented by Eva Pastrana, Head of HELP Unit, and Valentina Boz from the HELP Secretariat.

This online course aims to provide the national actors with the basic knowledge on the European Convention on Human Rights and how it is implemented by the European Court of Human Rights in view of its application at the national level.
