The HELP/UNHCR course on Asylum and the European Convention on Human Rights was launched for a mixed group of administrative judges and lawyers in cooperation with the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors “Pavel Shatev”. Participants were welcomed by Judge Aneta Arnaudovska, Director of the Academy, and Monica Martinez, Head of Operations of the Council of Europe Programme Office in “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
Following a presentation on HELP and its online courses by Valentina Boz, HELP in the Western Balkans, participants could benefit from an overview of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights by Flip Schüller, member of the HELP/UNHCR working group on Asylum and the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as introduction to the Macedonian legal framework by the national tutors, Zoran Drangovski and Aleksandar Godzo.
The HELP/UNHCR course on Asylum and the European Convention on Human Rightswas developed as a joint initiative between the HELP Programme and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It covers in an interactive manner the key provisions and the related case law of the ECtHR which are particularly relevant for asylum seekers and refugees.
On the same day, a certificate ceremony award was organised after the successful completion of a Training-of-Trainers session for HELP trainers and the HELP course on Hate crime and hate speech, launched in June 2017 for a selected group of judges and prosecutors.
The events were organised in the framework of the HELP in the Western Balkans project, funded by the Human Rights Trust Fund (HRTF) and targeting Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”.
