New Law on Regional Development in Lithuania

The Centre of Expertise for Good Governance and Lithuanian parliamentarians will discuss the Council of Europe recommendations on the draft law on Regional Development in Lithuania. The discussion is organised  upon request of the Lithuanian Government, in the framework of the CoE-EU joint project “Delivering Good Governance in Lithuania”. It will be held via a videoconference on 10 June and will address specific issues, such as associating economic and social partners into decision-making processes at regional level, in the context of ensuring accountability of regional authorities. A vote on the draft law is planned soon after the discussion.

This is a second such discussion with parliament – the first one was held in April, when a Report on the Council of Europe Peer Review on Regional Development was presented. The Report includes recommendations for improvement of the draft Law in accordance with relevant Council of Europe standards.
