Head of Democratic Governance Department Daniel POPESCU co-chaired the meeting of the Decentralisation Donor Board in Kyiv (Ukraine) on 17 October 2019. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr Popescu jointly with Minister for Community and Territorial Development (MinRegion) Alyona BABAK and attended by representatives of numerous international organisations supporting governance reform in Ukraine, including special envoy of the Government of Germany for the Ukrainian reform agenda Georg MILBRADT, leadership on the MinRegion, members of the Parliament and President’s Office. The discussion during the event was focused on two main issues: concept of the Constitutional amendments on decentralisation and the Government’s plan of action to further implement reform in line with the European standards and the Council of Europe recommendations.
In addition, high-level bilateral meetings with senior representatives of the President’s Office, dedicated Parliamentary Committee, leadership of the Parliament, MinRegion, local government associations were held by Mr Daniel POPESCU. He confirmed the Council of Europe commitment to the decentralisation process in Ukraine and further co-operation with national partners in co-ordination with international community.
The events mentioned above were organised within the Programme “Decentralisation and Local government reform in Ukraine” (in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2021).
