“Promoting freedom of expression and a positive role of the media in combating gender stereotypes and violence against women” project

The Project “Promoting freedom of expression and a positive role of the media in combating gender stereotypes and violence against women” falls under the component of the South Programme III which aims at fostering exchanges and networking between the Southern Mediterranean and Europe in the area of combating violence against women.

It is a joint program between the European Union (EU) and the Council of Europe for a period of three years for the period 2018-2020.

OBJECTIVE:

  • Contribute to enhance media’s ability in the region to play their role in promoting gender equality and combat gender based violence/violence against women. Complement action towards the promotion of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and other related initiatives in the field of gender equality at large.
  • Build bridges with actions undertaken by national partners (for instance the Tunisian and Moroccan audiovisual regulators) and share best practice at the regional level. Coordinate with other previous and ongoing actions supported by external partners working in the region (Med media project, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, UNESCO etc.).

Main activities: regional workshops on the role of the media in the field of gender equality and the portrayal of women in the media

Back Tunisia: Recruitment of three (3) long-term national consultants for the National Authority for Access to Information (INAI).

In the framework of the joint project "Support for Independent Bodies in Tunisia (PAII-T)", co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the latter, the Council of Europe accompanies and supports the setting up of the independent bodies in Tunisia provided for in the 2014 Constitution, as well as other independent non-constitutional bodies. One component of the project includes technical support to the INAI team. In this context, the Council of Europe calls on consultants - experts specialising in the fields mentioned below - whose task will be to strengthen the INAI team and increase its operationalisation:

  • A trainer-expert specialized in the field of access to information in charge of drawing up INAI's internal and external training plan (including managers and employees of public bodies subject to Law 22/2016 of 24 March 2016 on the right of access to information);
  • An expert specialized in scientific production in charge of the elaboration of research and documents related to access to information and the dissemination of knowledge and know-how to target audiences;
  • A community manager who is an expert in online and offline communication responsible for developing and promoting the Authority's communication tools relating to the various programmes and INAI's visibility among the various stakeholders.
