Regional Conference on Media Self-Regulation

Within the Project "Promoting freedom of expression and information and freedom of the media in South-East Europe", the Council of Europe  is organising a two-day Regional Conference on Media Self-Regulation,  to be held on 26 and 27 March 2015, in Hotel Metropol Palace, in Belgrade, Serbia.

The main objective of this regional conference is to enhance regional cooperation and enable exchange of experience in the field of media ethics with objective of promoting high-quality professional media reporting and ethical journalism in project countries.

The conference is the follow-up to the conference held  in Pristina in March 2014. That conference in Pristina was an opportunity to discuss models of popularisation of complaint procedures, on-line media ethics and functioning and status of self-regulatory bodies in SEE. With the aim of increasing and improving regional cooperation among regional self-regulatory bodies, the project initiated establishment of the informal network of media self-regulatory bodies of South-East Europe. During the Pristina Conference, the representatives of media self-regulatory bodies signed the Memorandum of Understanding creating the network. It was unanimously decided to name the network Media NEThics. The network will serve as a platform for regional cooperation and exchange of experience with the objective of promoting high-quality professional media and ethical journalism in these countries.

The upcoming conference in Belgrade will enable continuation of discussion started during the founding Conference and enable planning of new initiatives and strategies for promotion and development of ethical journalism and media reporting in South-East Europe.
