Back Training for journalists in Montenegro: Freedom of Expression and Right to Privacy. Rights and responsibilities of journalists

In the framework of the joint EU/CoE Project “Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)”, the Council of Europe and the Association of professional journalists of Montenegro have organized the Training for journalists: Freedom of Expression and Right to Privacy. Rights and responsibilities of journalists, held on 13-14 October, in Petrovac.

The aim of the activity was to raise awareness of journalists and media actors on Council of Europe standards in this field, on their relating rights, responsibilities and professional values and on responsible and credible journalism. Expert’s presentations included topics such: freedom of expression, right to privacy, defamation, internet and safety of journalists. The presentations were followed by lively discussions on case studies based on case law of the European Court of Human Rights, on the important role of journalists and reporters for a democratic society, on presented standards and on existent practice in the media sector.
