The Council of Europe supports the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day (WFPD) in Tunisia

What is the role of the media in the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms? How has press freedom been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic? How to respond to the crisis of traditional media and the challenges of media regulation while preserving fundamental freedoms?

These are among the questions that were addressed during the exchanges of May 28 and 29 in Tunis. The meeting, organised by the SNJT with the support of a large number of international partners (EU, UNESCO, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Joint EU-Council of Europe Programme of Support to Independent Bodies in Tunisia PAII-T), dealt with, among other things, the challenges facing the regulation of the media and the role of HAICA and the National Press Council in the protection of fundamental freedoms.
