Roundtable on best practices related to handling complaints pertaining to Transmission Code violations

In an effort to encourage self-regulation by audio-visual media operators in the country, the Albanian Audi-Visual Media Authority (AMA) organised a roundtable discussion with the recently founded Complaints’ Councils by media operators for the purpose of enabling their organisations to handle public complaints. Important issues of such practice as prescribed in the legal framework like impartiality, protection of sources and right of reply were discussed. Ms Asja Rokša-Zubčević, the Council of Europe expert from the Communications Regulatory Agency of BiH, shared their agency’s best practices on the subject matter, as a representative from the Albanian Media Institute shared their experience in training journalists to respect the journalistic Code of Ethics.

The operators praised AMA’s initiative to inform and guide the Complaints’ Councils which are new at such role.

The activity was supported under the European Union/Council of Europe joint project "Strengthening Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and Media in South East Europe (JUFREX)".

This event was implemented with the financial assistance of the European Union and the Council of Europe. The views expressed herein can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the European Union.
