Council of Europe delegation took part in the 3rd European Conference on democracy and human rights organised in Kristiansand on the 5 May 2022 as a part of the European Democracy Week.

Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Bjørn Berge has made an opening statement underlining the Council of Europe commitment and continuous action to promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law.

Director General Christos Giakoumopoulos has moderated the panel on Protecting the European Order dedicated to assessing the challenges and promoting new approaches to “closing the implementation gap”.

Patrick Penninckx, Head of the Information Society Department, has moderated the panel on Rules for the Digital Age. The panel has discussed the broader impact of artificial intelligence and the use of new technologies for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and the legal responses envisaged by the EU and the Council of Europe.
