First Steering Committee of joint European Union and Council of Europe Action “Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Montenegro (JUFREX 2)” has been successfully organised.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Government, judiciary, police, broadcasting regulator, lawyers’s and journalists’ associations, who will work together in next three years to align media legislation and its implementation with European standards, further improve the work of judicial and police bodies and enhance their cooperation with the journalists. Steering Committee outlined the key activities, timelines and intended results of the Action, emphasising the importance of cross-sector cooperation, promotion of Freedom of Expression standards and measurement of the concrete impacts, especially in regard to the capacity development of beneficiary institutions and adjudication in FoE cases

JUFREX 2 is the leading cooperation initiative in Montenegro in the area of Freedom of Expression and Protection of Journalists, and it will be implemented by the Council of Europe, under the joint EU/CoE programme Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey II.
