Execution Department continues co-operation with Ukrainian authorities

The Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights carried out a working visit to Kyiv on 26-27 March. It held a series of meetings with the Ukrainian authorities concerning the progress of the execution of the Strasbourg Court’s judgments concerning Ukraine.

This included training sessions with lawyers at the Government Agent’s Office to build their capacity as the focal point for different domestic authorities in the implementation of the Court’s judgments. Meetings, which focused on rights of detainees and prisoners, were also held with representatives from the Penitentiary Department, the Ministry of Justice and the Coordination Centre for Legal Aid. In addition discussions were held with representatives notably of the Secretariats of the Supreme and the Constitutional Courts, the Verkhovna Rada and the Higher Council of Justice, focusing on the execution of the Court’s judgments and activities of the national expert network on implementation of the Court’s judgments.
