Labour Rights as Human Rights – launching of the new phase of the HELP course

The Council of Europe Project "Strengthening Protection of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia" launched the second phase of the 12-week online HELP course on "Labour Rights as Human Rights" in Georgia. The Project organised the first round of the course in 2022, specifically for the Labour Inspection Office. The new course phase was jointly opened for the Public Defender (Ombudsman) Office staff members in Georgia and the Labour Inspection Service. The course, on the one hand, will encourage the participants to carry out their duties effectively and equip them with sufficient knowledge of the European standards of labour rights. On the other hand, it will support the respective authorities to strengthen the protection of social rights in Georgia.

HELP online course on labour rights covers the fundamental concepts of the European labour rights system (Council of Europe/European Union), the European Social Charter, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice, as well as the regulations and practices provided for by current legislation in Georgia.

Tamar Gvaramadze, First Deputy Public Defender of Georgia and Nato Natenadze, First Deputy Chief Inspector of the Labour Inspection Office, opened the kick-off event. Ana-Maria Telbis, the Deputy Head of the Justice, and Human Rights Training Division Directorate, shared the introduction of the HELP course with the participants, while Maria Andriani Kostopoulou, HELP consultative board member and a tutor for the HELP course, introduced the concept, aim and background of the course in detail.

The event was organised within the Council of Europe Project "Strengthening Protection of Social and Economic Rights in Georgia." The Project is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia 2020-2023.
