The European Social Charter: a story on equality

The Council of Europe will host a series of sessions at the hybrid Fundamental Rights Forum 2021 on 11 and 12 October 2021.

A panel debate on how the European Social Charter, the only specialised legal instrument on social rights in Europe, and the findings of the European Committee of Social Rights can address multiple discrimination and help to build a fairer Europe following the COVID-19 pandemic will be held online 11 October (14:30 – 15:30 CEST).

This online session embedded in the Strasbourg hub and supported by the Council of Europe, is co-organised by the Department of the European Social Charter, EQUINET and ENNHRI.

The panel debate will feature a member of the European Committee of Social Rights, an International Non-Governmental Organisation and an equality body providing a testimony of how a well-functioning equality approach is about cooperation, with a focus on the importance of inclusive education for all children regardless of their impairments. This will create the opportunity to discuss how international organisations, NGOs, national human rights institutions and equality bodies can work together to making the enjoyment of human rights and equality of individuals a reality in Europe.
