Meeting on non-accepted provisions of the European Social Charter by Serbia

The meeting is organised by the Department of the European Social Charter of the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy of Serbia in the framework of the procedure provided for by Article 22 of the European Social Charter on “non-accepted provisions” in order to exchange views and information with the national authorities on provisions not yet accepted by the country. In this respect, it was emphasised that Serbia has made progress in respecting social rights and that there are no legislative obstacles to accepting specific provisions such as articles 17§1a, 6§4, 19, 27 and 31.

In addition, the Serbian authorities informed the participants that Serbia is going to hold consultations in view of accepting the collective complaints procedure, which has not yet been accepted by Serbia.

The meeting also gave the opportunity to a large number of trade unions and non-governmental organizations to speak out on the implementation of the Charter at national level and to encourage the government to continue in this direction.

The European Committee of Social Rights was represented by József Hajdú and Yusuf Balci, members of the Committee and Lauri Leppik, former member and General Rapporteur of the Committee.

The Secretariat of the European Social Charter was represented by Henrik Kristensen, Deputy Head of the Department of the European Social Charter, and by Odeta Kumbaro-Bianku, lawyer at the Collective Complaints Division.
