The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages is the European convention for the protection and promotion of languages used by traditional minorities. Together with the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities it constitutes the Council of Europe's commitment to the protection of national minorities. The implementation of the Charter is monitored by a committee of independent experts. Sweden: visit of the Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages

A delegation of the Committee of Experts carried out a visit to Sweden from 17-20 May 2022 to evaluate progress made in the protection and promotion of regional and minority languages. It is having meetings in Luleå and Stockholm with the representatives of the regional or minority languages speakers and of the authorities. This is the eighth monitoring visit of the Committee to Sweden. Following this visit, the Committee will draw up its evaluation report on the implementation of the Language Charter in Sweden containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The report is expected to be published in 2023.
