The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages is the European convention for the protection and promotion of languages used by traditional minorities. Together with the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities it constitutes the Council of Europe's commitment to the protection of national minorities. The implementation of the Charter is monitored by a committee of independent experts. Promising practices for protecting and promoting minority languages – transfer of knowledge across Europe

The Secretariat of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages has published a booklet on “Protection and promotion of regional or minority languages: promising practices across Europe 2015-2020”. The collected examples of practices can serve as models for knowledge transfer among stakeholders. Regional or minority languages appear here as a living phenomenon used under all circumstances and on all formats, notably in line with the current digital era and the use of IT tools in education, culture, media and administration.
