BeSafeNet Editorial Board Meeting

The BeSafeNet Editorial Board meeting was held on 29 April 2020 via video conference. Among other topics discussed, a review of the 2020 Olympiad held on 28 February 2020 was carried out. The project team reported a marked increase in the number of secondary schools which participated in the 2020 Olympiad. Whereas 113 teams participated in 2019, the number more than doubled in 2020 with 272  teams competing from 10 of the EUR-OPA member States. EUR-OPA hopes to invite the top 3 schools, Greece (1st) , Romania (2nd) and Bulgaria (3rd), to an award ceremony to be held in Strasbourg later in the year. The Editorial Board will continue to widen the scope of topics covered on the BeSafeNet website through the addition of biological hazards/pandemics.

The BeSafeNet website is a tool for promoting risk culture among populations. Natural and technological disasters cause great human and economic losses. We cannot prevent many of them but there is a way to minimise the risk of disaster by sharing internationally valid and reliable information on the nature, causes and consequences of natural and technological disasters.
