“Increasing knowledge and understanding of wild fire prevention for protection of human settlements and social infrastructure»

The EUR-OPA Executive Secretary participated in the Conference entitled “Increasing knowledge and understanding of wild fire prevention for protection of human settlements and social infrastructure” on 14 and 15 November in Moscow (Russian Federation). On this occasion, he presented EUR-OPA activities related to wildfires, in particular the projects supported through three Specialised Centers (the Global Fire Monitoring Center, Germany; the European Centre on Forest Fires, Greece; the European Natural Disasters Training Centre, Turkey). Organised by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, the Conference aimed to advance on prevention policy for forest fires prevention and risk management, recognized the responsibility of different stakeholders, including the private sector, share advances on science and technology, explored opportunities for further enhancing disaster risk management and coordination mechanism. It gathered high level representatives from Governments, representative of UNISDR and Private as well as Public Sectors, Science and Technology community and local representatives. The results will contribute to the forthcoming European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction to be held in Italy in November 2018.
