Media coverage of elections: training for the representatives of leading media from Bosnia and Herzegovina

A three-day training (9-12 September) for the representatives of leading media from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina was organised within the frame of the Council of Europe project "Support to the Integral and Inclusive Election Process in Bosnia and Herzegovina" of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo.

A first training of this kind took place beginning of July 2021. A total of 60 representatives of Media participated to the trainings as well as the President and members of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The programme of education, developed in line with relevant international standards and good practice, has been prepared in cooperation with experts of the Central Election Commission as a base for education and certification of 60 representatives of the 30 leading media.

The programme has two main goals:

  • To strengthen the capacity of media to provide the citizens and voters with a professional, independent, continuous, and relevant monitoring and reporting on elections and electoral processes to empower the trust in the rule of law as well as in election administration and fair elections.
  • To acquaint the representatives of the leading media with the most important aspects of the electoral process, electoral legislation and existing solutions. But also with the challenges posed by the need for improvements in the electoral legislation as well as in other parts of the electoral process such as possible introduction of new technologies .
