Training of members of 38 territorial electoral commissions ahead of 2017 parliamentary elections

According to the recent session from December 2016, the Central Electoral Commission appointed members of 38 territorial electoral commissions (TEC) for the next six years. All of them need to be familiarized with general and specific aspects of the electoral process, and to be trained based on the new Armenian electoral code, which was adopted in 2016.

In this context, and ahead of 2017 parliamentary elections, a training of trainers (ToT) for territorial electoral commissioners was organized in Aghveran, Kotayk region, on 24-26 December 2016. The training was conducted according to the recommendations of an international training expert from Council of Europe, and included the use of new adult teaching methods. During the activity the participants had, among others, the opportunity to contribute to the development of new training material, they are going to apply during a series of trainings for territorial electoral commissioners in January-February 2017.

The activity took place in the framework of the PCF Project “Long-term Electoral Assistance to the Election Related Stakeholders of Armenia” and was a follow-up to a similar training of trainers, which was conducted on 14-16 July 2016 on precinct electoral commission (PEC) level. The training of trainers on PEC level was the first formation for commissioners based on the new Electoral Code, followed by extensive training sessions for precinct electoral commissions in Yerevan and all regions in view of local elections in October 2016.
