New cooperation project in the electoral field to be launched in the Republic of Moldova

Based on the good track in cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, the Council of Europe will launch a new project, as part of the Council of Europe o Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024.

The launch of the new 2-year project was announces by Mr. ADELSBACH, head of the Division of Elections and Civil Society, Directorate General II, Council of Europe at the post-electoral review conference held in Chisinau online on 18-19 February 2021. He noted with satisfaction the current Central Electoral Commission’s and other electoral stakeholders’ commitment to make the electoral processes more transparent and integral, as well as to continue implementing strategic goals so as to ensure democratic exercise of citizens’ right to vote in line with European election standards and the Council of Europe election aqius.

The new Project will focus mainly on strengthening capacities of the electoral management bodies to ensure the sustainability in the development of the professional and technical skills, More inclusive and participatory electoral processes and Promotion of good standards into the electoral legislation and practice. A special emphasis is put on following up recommendations on amending the electoral legal framework of the Republic of Moldova in line with the European election standards, and recommendations made by the Venice Commission and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ electoral observation missions and local observers.

The official launch of the Project “Improving Electoral Practice in the Republic of Moldova, Phase II” is planned for the end of April – beginning of May 2021. The launching will be held once a coordination with main electoral stakeholders, registration within the state Aid Management Platform and other inception actions are finalised.
