On 28 February – 1st March the Council of Europe, the State Audit Office of Georgia (SAO) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) have organised a workshop on issues pertaining to the monitoring of legality and transparency of political finances.
The meeting has engaged the staff of SAO’s Financial Monitoring Service of Political Parties as well as representatives of leading domestic civil society organisations monitoring electoral processes.
Participants overviewed longstanding and recent GRECO and OSCE/ODIHR recommendations on improving the legislative framework and discussing legal gaps revealed during the 2018 Presidential Election and legislative proposals tabled by the State Audit Office. The meeting also aimed at deliberating on State Audit Office regulations, monitoring procedures, and declaration forms.
The workshop was organised within the frame of Council of Europe project “Reform of the Electoral Practice in Georgia”.
