Gender equality and gender mainstreaming in the priorities of the Central Election Commission

The representatives of the Central Election Commission have deepened their knowledge on available instruments and mechanisms for development and implementation of gender policy and ensuring gender equality in election process during the workshop “Gender equality and gender mainstreaming in election”, organised with the support of the Council of Europe*.

During this one-day event, the participants – members of the CEC and the representatives of the Commission’s Secretariat – discussed international norms and standards and national legislation in the field of gender equality, deliberated on gender stereotypes and prejudices in the electoral process, and analysed gender aspects in the Central Election Commission's acts and activities.

Intensive and lively discussions, interesting and thorough debates, and most importantly – outlining new ideas on how to promote gender equality in the electoral process and in all activities of the Central Election Commission – have become another step towards promoting gender equality in Ukraine, which is also one of the goals of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2022.

*The workshop was organised and held with the support of the Council of Europe project “Supporting the transparency, inclusiveness and integrity of electoral practice in Ukraine”, implemented in cooperation with the Central Election Commission within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2022.
