The 20 competences included in the competence model

"What are Competences for Democratic Culture (CDC)? Why are they important? Can we measure if someone has developed these competences, and how? How can they be developed in the classroom?". These are some of the topics that are addressed in the new online self-learning course developed by the Council of Europe Education Department within the LEMON Learning Modules Online project.

With this 10-hour long self-learning course, learners will gain a detailed insight into the Council of Europe Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture. It aims at strengthening the capacity of education professionals to support learners in the development of the competences – Values, Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge and critical understanding – that they need in order to live successfully in contemporary democratic societies.

The course targets education professionals but is also open to the general public. It is offered free of charge upon simple registration.

This course elaborates on the concepts presented in the 2-hour introduction course “The Key to Competences for Democratic Culture”, and the Council of Europe is also planning to develop a Master Class on Competences for Democratic Culture, a tutored course encouraging interactive peer learning that will last approximately 5 weeks.

Currently, there are 13 self-learning courses available on the platform, which you can discover here: Council of Europe Education Portal for Online Learning

The course is accessible upon registration on the online learning platform here.
