Council of Europe launched the CEFR Companion Volume with New Descriptors

The Education Policy Division of the Council of Europe organised the Launching Conference “Building Inclusive Societies through Enriching Plurilingual and Pluricultural Education” on 16-17 May 2018, in Strasbourg to introduce the CEFR Companion Volume with New Descriptors (CEFR/CV).

The conference was part of a series of activities to promote and plurilingual and pluricultural education and as well as to contribute improving learning and teaching languages with a special focus on The CEFR Companion Volume.

About 120 participants including policy makers and curriculum developers from the Member states, representatives of language education associations/institutions, teacher educators and practitioners and researchers attended the event.

In the morning session the participants were introduced to the CEFR Companion Volume with a focus on the development of the new descriptors and mediation. A series of presentations showing the results from the piloting phase then followed.

The Launching Conference was accompanied by parallel workshops where language education professionals and stakeholders discussed implications, opportunities and challenges for language learning, teaching and assessment; developed recommendations and drafted 40 project proposals for the implementation of the CEFR Companion Volume.

The participants will submit their final proposals by the end of June 2018. The main output of these projects will be a compendium of good practices in the form of case studies.

A general report will be published in July 2018.
