Back The European Qualifications Passport for Refugees moves forward

“Working your way into a new society would be hard for any of us. Doing it without a formal assessment of your education or skills is even harder” (Mr Henrik Asheim, Norwegian Minister of Higher Education and Research)
The European Qualifications Passport for Refugees moves forward

The EQPR Project Coordination Group met online on September 8 to discuss the current status of activities and the way forward.

The meeting was opened by Mr Henrik Asheim, Minister of Higher Education and Research of Norway and Ms Snežana Samardžić-Marković, Director General of Democracy at the Council of Europe.

In his opening remarks, Mr Asheim recognised the difficulties refugees encounter when adapting to a new society, and the importance of the EQPR for their lives.
Ms Samardžić-Marković highlighted the relevance of the EQPR, as history has taught us that there will be more inflows of refugees in the future, as there have been in the past.
The EQPR represents an easy and yet highly effective manner to facilitate refugees’ integration into our societies.

Representatives from participating countries (Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, and the United Kingdom), as well as from the UNHCR, held a productive meeting and advised the CoE on how to move forward. The countries are represented by their ENICs (National Information Centres on the Recognition of Qualifications).

Among the key topics discussed were the EQPR online platform (soon to be launched), a specialized training course for evaluators and gathering testimonials from EQPR holders. Consensus was reached on stepping up online interviews as the pandemic continues.
