European Qualifications Passport for Refugees presented in Oslo

On November 21, the Norwegian Minister for Higher Education, Iselin Nybø; Marina Malgina of NOKUT (the Norwegian ENIC); and Sjur Bergan, Head of the Council of Europe’s Education Department presented the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR) at a public event in Oslo. The presentation attracted some 80 participants from the Ministry of Education, NOKUT, and higher education Institutions as well as from public authorities responsible for integration and labor issues.

The presentations were followed by a panel debate between Marie Amelie, a high profile social entrepreneur who came to Norway as a refugee; Svein Stølen, the Rector of the University of Oslo; Terje Mørland, the Director of NOKUT, and Sjur Bergan.

476 refugees have now been interviewed, and of these 396 have obtained the EQPR. Much of the debate focused on the need to coordinate publish policies for the integration of refugees. Thanks to the involvement of universities in the interviews conducted in Italy, 39 EQPR holders have already been accepted at Italian universities.
