25th anniversary of the Lisbon Recognition Convention

12 April 2022 marked the 25th anniversary of the Lisbon Recognition Convention. This date coincided with the 80th Bologna Follow Up Group meeting, which took place at the Council of Europe headquarters.

At the reception organised to mark the occasion, Villano Qiriazi, the Head of the Education Department noted that the Council of Europe/UNESCO Convention of Recognition is among the most ratified, which is a quantitative indicator of its success. It counts 54 countries among its contracting Parties, going far beyond Europe and the European Higher Education Area. To date, this Convention is the only legal instrument within the European Higher Education Area, it is a key to increasing student and staff mobility, ensuring fair recognition of qualifications, thus contributing to the main objectives of the Bologna Process. This can be considered as the qualitative indicator of its success.

Luca Lantero, President of the Lisbon Recognition Convention Committee, Sjur Bergan, former Head of the Education Department and Peter Wells from UNESCO also warmly greeted meeting participants and guests.
