The impact of COVID-19 on safety and security at sports events – report released

The COVID-19 sanitary crisis and the measures taken to contain it have had and continue to have an unprecedented impact on the organisation of sports events, including on policies and practices on safety, security and service. A report just released by the Standing Committee of the Council of Europe Spectator Violence Convention analyses the responses of 28 States and 5 Organisations to an online survey on this issue.

The report, based on replies received between 10 June and 7 August 2020, examines the overall impact of COVID-19 pandemic in States and sports organisations across Europe, notably identifying good practices/lessons learned and challenges ahead, both in the short and the long-term.

The Council of Europe will hold a restricted webinar next 19 November to discuss on the findings of the report and exchange on the latest developments and measures envisaged to tackle the current second wave. The outcomes of this webinar should be released later.
