39th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (“ICDPPC”)

The 39th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (“ICDPPC”), is taking place from 25 to 29 September 2017 in Hong Kong. As the annual global forum for data protection authorities, the Conference seeks to provide leadership at international level in data protection and privacy and gathers more than a hundred privacy and data protection authorities from across the globe. This year the conference is attended by Jan Kleijssen, the Director of Information Society and Action against Crime and Sophie Kwasny, Head of the Data Protection Unit. Mr Kleijssen will open and sum-up the joint Council of Europe and ICANN side event “ICANN and Privacy” aimed at discussing the relevance of privacy and data protection considerations and inclusion into ICANN policies (see also leaflet).

Mr Kleijssen will also participate as a speaker in the side event “Multi-stakeholder Consultation on UNESCO Project Defining Internet Indicators” and in the open session panel “Privacy and Encryption in the Digital Age”, during which he will present the recommendations of the Council of Europe developed in connection to the balanced use of the encryption in the Digital Age.

Besides the participation in the 39th ICDPPC, Ms Kwasny will speak at the 6th Asian Privacy Scholars Network International Conference in HKU in the framework of a panel on “Global and Regional Privacy Protection Law and Standards” and  at the third edition of the “Privacy, Personality and Flows of Information” workshop which forms part of a series of conferences held under the auspices of the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to privacy.
