The Stefano Rodotà Award was granted for the first time this year by the Committee of Convention 108 on the occasion of the Data Protection Day, on 28 January. Intended to be awarded annually on the occasion of Data Protection Day, it recognises innovative and original academic research projects in the field of data protection.
On 14 June, the 2019 winners presented the research work that earned them the 1st Stefano Rodotá Award to the 38th plenary meeting of the Committee of Convention 108:
- Ingrida Milkaite and Eva Lievens, from Gent University, won the Prize with a research project titled “A children’s rights perspective on privacy and data protection in the digital age”
- Jef Ausloos, from the Institute for Information Law (IViR) / University of Amsterdam, had a special mention with his project titled “The Right to Erasure: Safeguard for Informational Self Determination in a Digital Society ?”
On this occasion, they were presented a trophy designed specifically for the Stefano Rodotá Award.
