The Council of Europe´s Secretary General, Thorbjørn Jagland, on 23 May 2018 signed collaboration agreements - in the form of an exchange of letters – with the European Internet Service Providers Association (EuroISPA) and the IT security and performance firm Cloudflare to promote respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law online.
The new partners join another eight technology firms and six associations which entered into the same kind of co-operation agreement with the Council of Europe in November 2017.
These companies are Apple, Deutsche Telekom, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Kaspersky Lab, Orange and Telefónica. The associations are Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), DIGITALEUROPE, the European Digital SME Alliance, the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO), GSMA and the multi-stakeholder Global Network Initiative (GNI).
