Parliamentarians for Global Action, GLACY+ and Octopus Project: Second Regional Parliamentary Webinar to Promote Universality and Implementation of the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime

On 28 September, GLACY+ and the Octopus Project together with the Parliamentarians for Global Action organised the second webinar from a series of four thematic webinars to promote the universality and implementation of the Budapest Convention and its Protocol/s to ensure an effective and coordinated approach to tackle cybercrime.

The webinar, dedicated to the Caribbean region, provided Parliamentarians and policy makers with a platform for identifying effective approaches to countering cybercrime in Caribbean countries and insight on how to make use of the opportunities offered by the mechanism of the Budapest Convention for an enhanced criminal justice response.

Participants from 5 countries (Barbados, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago) actively engaged in discussions and became more familiar with the main attributes of the Budapest Convention as the most relevant international treaty on cybercrime and e-evidence. Moreover, a particular emphasis was given to the need of policy makers to be more aware of the cybercrime challenges and risks and further support the strengthen of the domestic legislation and capacity building.

Follow the agenda of the upcoming webinars in the series – 9 November 2021 – Asia/Pacific Region, 18 January 2022 – Latin America, along with more details and relevant information on the capacity building programmes implemented by the Council of Europe, on our webpage.
