GLACY+: Training of trainers on cybercrime and electronic evidence delivered in Benin

From 16-19 August, a small group of judges and prosecutors from Benin participated in a dedicated train-the-trainers workshop to build their capacities to act as national trainers on cybercrime and electronic evidence. Building on knowledge gained by completing an introductory course on cybercrime and electronic evidence in July 2021, participants benefited from the opportunity to refresh their knowledge on the substantive, procedural and international cooperation provisions of the Budapest Convention, as well as to develop the pedagogical skills necessary to deliver effective training sessions.

Working with the Council of Europe expert leading the workshop, the trainees adapted the Council of Europe’s training materials on cybercrime and electronic evidence for delivery in Benin, including preparing practical cases, definitions, and content on topics such as new technologies, cyberattacks, procedural law and electronic evidence.

The participants will deploy the skills gained during the workshop later in August 2022 by delivering the introductory course on cybercrime and electronic evidence to a cohort of their peers, again in Cotonou, Benin.

The activity was part of a dedicated series of workshops organised by the GLACY+ project, in cooperation with the OCWAR-C project, aiming to create specialised teams of national trainers in the ECOWAS region that are able to deliver training courses on cybercrime and electronic evidence to their peers.
