The joint European Union – Council of Europe CyberSouth project, together with the Council of Europe Office in Rabat and the Public Prosecution Office of Morocco, organised two training workshops on international cooperation mechanisms offered by the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and its protocols in Morocco, from 24 to 28 October 2022.
Held in Tangier and in Fes, the workshops aimed at enhancing the capacity of judiciary to request, obtain and share information on cybercrime cases and electronic evidence with other countries. It covered topics like the implication of technologies in mutual legal assistance requests, the collection of electronic evidence, including with foreign Internet service providers and the functioning of the Budapest Convention 24/7 point of contact.
The judiciary plays a crucial role in the overall response to cybercrime and the need to enhance their knowledge and skills in this area is fully recognised, both at national and international level.
A similar course will be organised at regional level in Marrakesh by the end of 2022. These workshops continue the series of activities delivered by the CyberSouth project for magistrates in Morocco, from the basic and advanced judicial training courses to the training of trainers course held in Rabat in May 2022.
